Mountain Goat Sculptures at Kalum Lookout

Mountain Goat Sculptures Terrace BC

Great Bear Ironworks has unveiled a striking new sculpture installation at Kalum Lookout, celebrating one of the Skeena region’s most iconic animals: the Mountain Goat. The project was made possible through the generous support of the Terrace Community Forest, which continues to invest in initiatives that connect art, environment, and community.

Perched high above the valley, Kalum Lookout offers one of the most breathtaking views of Terrace and the surrounding mountains. The new installation adds a powerful cultural and artistic element to the site. Created by Great Bear Ironworks founder and blacksmith Steve Rogers, the piece depicts the rugged majesty of Mountain Goats—animals that embody resilience, strength, and harmony with the steep alpine landscapes of Northwest B.C.

“The Mountain Goat is a perfect symbol for Terrace,” says Rogers. “They are resilient and sure-footed, thriving in the dramatic mountain terrain that defines our region. This sculpture was designed not just as art, but as a way for the community and visitors to connect more deeply with the natural beauty and wildlife that surround us.”

The installation is constructed from locally sourced steel, blending modern craftsmanship with timeless blacksmithing traditions. Its form captures the spirit of the Mountain Goat while reflecting light and shadow in ways that shift throughout the day, encouraging visitors to pause, reflect, and take in the panoramic views of the Kalum Valley.

The Terrace Community Forest, which funded the project, emphasized its importance as both a community landmark and a tourism feature. “This installation enriches the experience at Kalum Lookout, offering a memorable place for visitors while celebrating the wildlife that is such a vital part of our identity,” says [Insert Name, Title, Terrace Community Forest].

The Mountain Goat sculpture now joins a growing legacy of public art in Terrace, complementing past collaborations such as the Terrace Wolf Pack and the Western Toad at Ferry Island. Together, these works highlight the unique relationship between people, wildlife, and place in Northwest British Columbia.

Visitors to Kalum Lookout can now experience not only stunning vistas of the Skeena River and Coast Mountains, but also a work of art that embodies the spirit of the wild heart of Terrace.
